Perhaps I've made this overly complicated. I'm excited about the project that is based around my TIP because it involves students from all three levels (ES, MS, HS) at my current school as well as students from other schools located in other parts of the world. However, getting teachers from other schools on board has been a real challenge and has already, in part, delayed my research by about two months (that and having a baby two months early).
Already I have a piece of advice for future TIP students; set up a project that does not rely on other teachers if at all possible because it can create a timing/scheduling nightmare.

Your TIP proposal seems really well thought out. I particularly appreciate how you considered ways to make the experience meaningful and authentic to the students. Collaborating is important, but so difficult to do - online or otherwise. Question: most of your data about the students’ experience relies on written responses to surveys. I think that some of things you’re getting at are quite subtle or difficult to capture. This may be more difficult if the students’ are not that able or wiling to express these things in writing. So, do you have any plans to talk to a few students? I think a few extended, careful, comfortable interviews with small groups of students would reveal a lot. What do you think? David W.
Hi Reece,
When I was thinking about my TIP, it initially involved other teachers. However, one of my colleagues encouraged me not to for the very same reason as you have outlined.
On a positive note, somebody has got to do the impossible.....and who better than you.
Could you please send me your TIP to plepore@hkis.edu.hk
I will return the favour.
hey reece, never mind i found your tip on the msu site. It looks like you (from our group )and I have posted them.
Reece,
You have a very nice plan. As for data collection, maybe you can combine the qualitative survey with the quantitative survey if the two are conducted at the same time. One of the questions goes like this, “Did you feel that wikis made peer editing easier?” Please add “why or why not” as a follow-up question. It would be even better to have such in-depth questions in an interview. What do you think? Gaoming Z.
